I found an image of Moyamensing taken in 1935, and you can see the store in the upper right corner, with the awnings, above the roof of the car. There apparently was a sign with large letters hannging from the front (see "L L S"):

Looks like there's an older, slightly larger sign underneath.
Entrance to alleyway.


Sign placement makes sense, as the land immediately in front of the sign is shown vacant in atlases from 1942 and 1962.

Blair Street Ghost

Illegible, but it seems as though there was a logo or something (light oval shape) at the right corner and some overlapping lettering.

Pilling

"PILLING" with "Receiving" reversed out of directional arrow.


Established 1814, the silversmith-turned-instrument maker George P. Pilling & Son Co. manufactured and exported surgical, dental and veterinary instruments. They also mass-produced hearing aids and stethoscopes throughout the 1800s.

Numerous overlapping signs, the brightest of which incorporates a large circular seal or logo, along with remnants of a phone number or address "505". At bottom, can see remnants of sign company's tagline "OUTDOOR ADV".

Ace Rental Service

"ACE Rental Service... Bars..."

This sign is now completely gone, as the building has been converted into a community center.

3rd and Fairmount Streets

Hope Machine Co. One of my favorites.

Main sign above doors reads "HOPE MACHINE CO. Engineers and Machinists." Smaller signs read (left) "Automobiles Repaired" and (right) "Steam & Gas Engines Repaired". Industrial directories have listings and ads for the business as late as 1919. The street still houses a few automobile repair shops and sales lots.
